Full Version : ABE EL management technique
sesl >>SESL suggestions >>ABE EL management technique

Berwick- 05-30-2006
ABE currently have TWELVE players on less than 3 Energy Level (EL)

This phenomenal use of resources needs examined - at at least applauded!

Aberdeen take risks with EL, and it seems to work on the whole, having played 16 seasons in Division 1 of SESL. ABE have also tasted some Cup success in SESL.

ABE boss Ross said to me via PM today: "Personally I think it's quite interesting for the game that managers have different styles of managing EL. don't you??"

What do other SESL'ers think?

Hearts- 05-30-2006
As this topic is posted in "SESL Suggestions", is the suggestion more teams should take risks with player Energy Levels?

I think what manager Ross Hayworth does with ABE is nothing short of remarkable.
He deserves any plaudits going, and I am sure he must have gathered many Manager of Season votes over the years, and deservedly so.

Dunfermline- 05-31-2006
I believe Ross has never got ABE relegated in 15 seasons, so he deserves credit.

I had a pop at him last week on "match comments", but I genuinely admire his technique, as its now clear he is NOT a newbie risking player injury by not caring enough.
Ross cares about ABE. And he is a top manager.

Ross takes risks with EL - but they appear to be calculated risks.

If I was wearing a hat, it would currently be off in honour of Ross at ABE.

Cheers folks. It seems our tactics are much admired, but never copied ...

Never wear a hat in SESL, you'll just end up eating it!

I'm a big fan of your technique, Ross. Especially as we meet in the SESL Cup next and you only have 12 fit[1] players.

I wonder what wil happen if you get another injury in the game. I hope Olmec doesn't break SESL/clap.gif

[1] That's the Ross definition of fit.

The low EL players technique came a cropper this week, with 5 injuries in your game. I think it was 4 of them in the second half when the players were below 0 EL.

Dunfermline- 06-03-2006
ABE may need this rule - if still valid this season.
Makes sense to reinstate this rule on this occassion anyway.

Physio Boost (or Magic Sponge) will restore EL to 10 for a single player.
Regardless of injury, a Physio Boost would cost 10k per SL.
e.g. a FW20 injured would cost 200k to restore to full 10EL.

Couldn't see it in the rule sheet, but I notice the Olmec update. So I guess its still valid.

SeslDotNet- 06-05-2006
This seasons rules were edited, coloured and tidied up by a manager as a favour.
Seems the 'magic sponge' rule was missed out in error. This is my fault as I should have taken the time to triple check.

In the circumstances, I feared what Olmec software may do if it could not field 11 starters. ABE EL is so low I did not want to risk the whole database crashing. So I gave ABE the option of 2 magic sponges of upto 50 SL for 500k.

His next opponent approved of this action, and I trust other managers will understand reasons and think this is a fair course of action to take.

Seems fair enough - I assumed that since the new rule sheet was MSWL based that a rule or two would have slipped through. Easy done - I lost count of the number of documents that I have had to write where I miss one or two crucial snippets.

I feel I have now explored the outer limits of the high risk EL strategy in SESL and may be adopting a slightly more cautious approach in future!

Instead I am planning to risk my own EL in the Edinburgh Marathon on Sunday 11th June. I'm running on behalf of the Anthony Nolan Trust (a leukemia charity). I've received very generous support from SESL'ers in the past so if anyone would like to chuck in a couple of quid (dollars, euros ...) this year drop me an email at: ross.hayworth@britishlibrary.net

Cheers!
Ross

What time did you run Marathon in Ross,

or did you run out of EL before the end! :-)

So far so good for Aberdeen in season 18.

Could he go thru an entire season without a huge player injury?
Surely not! SESL/wink.gif
