Michael Owen
England v Argentina - 1998

18 year old Owen took David Beckhams inch perfect forward pass on the outside of his boot, used his raw acceleration to zigzag past two Argentine defenders, then arrowed a shot into the far left corner.
An overnight sensation was born.

England v Argentina - this time 1986

Dribbled past many defenders than slide ball in to net nabbing foot between Terry Butchers last gasp tackle.

Hollands Marco Van Basten scored a volley from a very tight angle.

Not sure what tournament it was from though.

It was during the final of the European Championships 1988 against the Soviet-Union. A wonderful goal, amazing how he pulled it off. It is still considered, after 18 years, the highlight of Dutch football.

My favourite World Cup goal is the goal Dennis Bergkamp scored in the 1998 quarter-final against Argentina. Long Ball from Frank de Boer, Bergkamp controls it masterfully and scores.

Best world cup goal Carlos Alberto Brazil vs Italy world cup 1970.

Remember for Maradona's in 1986 he was up against Terry Fenwick, Terry Butcher and Peter Reid. It diminishes the achievement a little. (still a great goal though)

Probably not the best ever (unfortunatley the little fat ex coke addict gets that for the 2nd against England....not that I'm bitter about the first at all!!!! SESL/jerkit.gif ) but the one I remember the most is that brilliant last minute volley by David Platt against Belgium to put England through to the last 8 at Italia 90...total class SESL/clap.gif .

Dunfermline- 05-18-2006
David Platt goal was when he kind of swivelled and volleyed it high in to net?

Odd no one mentioned Gary Linekar - guess his were all tap ins from 2 yards then!

What about Archie Gemmell mazy dribble past several Dutch defenders and then chipping ball over GK in to net. Argentina 1978 I think, and was officially awarded best goal of that tournament.

BUCKIE DAN- 05-18-2006
Certainly was DUU...it was the last min of extra time as well....so it saved us from going out on Pens even B4 meeting Germany!!

Have to agree on Martin van den Bosch for one time...

Goal of Bergkamp still give me chicken bumbs as I see it. And it was showed on Dutch television yesterday before the start of CL finale, what have should been the last official match of Dennis Bergkamp.

What a goal then, that brought us in the semi finals....

Archie Gemmell mazy dribble found fame again a few years ago when it was used as backdrop for Ewan McGregor nailing Kelly MacDonald.
Film was TRAINSPOTTING. Anyone seen it?

Yes, film trainspotting is a good watch. My son (a fan of Thomss The Tank Engine) did not get much out of film though! :-)

While laid low with Kelly MacDonald, I doubt my thoughts would ever drift to a wee baldy Scotsman called Archie Gemmell.

Anyone see the UK tv channel 5 rundown of top 50 world cup goals last night?

Brazilian dudes goal from 1970's won it. You know the one when Pele lays off the ball on edge of box, and the right back runs in from miles out and thunders it in to net, for his only world cup goal ever.

Dunfermline- 06-08-2006
A good countdown of goals, but presenter was quite annoying.

Berkamp goal was 2nd, where he controlled a 100 yard pass, and volleyed it past GK.

Winning Brazilian goal was amazing to see again. See my signature graphic below!
