Any player value guide is just that..... a GUIDE!

However, with changing rules almost every season, I fully accept the official guide from 3 seasons ago is now outdated.

When managers cannot even agree on CP or TP valuations, than there is little chance player values can be set in stone.

There are so many variables to consider: age and SL obviously, but also if a team is desperate for a GK it could drive up the value, or as many teams seeks DF just now then DF value is at a premium.

Similarly, SESL is awash with age 1 players and there is not enough TP to go round - so this puts age 1 players worth less, while TP value sneaks up (eg, look how fast STE traded all that TP recently - 3 days to trade 20 TP away)

Supply and demand, they call it. And once we have a couple of auctions completed, someone can present a summary of this seasons trading and purchase activity as a GUIDE.

Guides are good and I agree that gluts and famines should drive prices in certain directions, however there does come a cut off point where it becomes uneconomic to sell a player at the supposed market price. Anyone who does is simply crippling their investment.

And if its uneconomical to sell them at that level the answer is not to sell unless you can afford to take the hit.

I just rethought through this.

I think what we need is a reference set of values which can do us from season to season.

All thats needed after that is a couple of rules and modifiers that can allow us to see what current market values are roughly.

For exmaple I could live with the S15 spreadsheet Steve sent me (have to admit I havent read through it all), but lets pick a stake in the ground and every season we note the lie of the land - ie age 1 likely to be down 20 to 30 percent. Lots of defenders wanted - premium of 10% or so?

Agree. We need a reference set of values which can do us from season to season with slight tweaks.

Inaugural Player Values Committee been instructed to report initial findings on this forum by end of February.

Re : DEV buying a 6/14 DM for 2 CP ???? Isn't that a lot for an aged 6 player? The Season 15 player value guide has a 6/14 priced at 69 k?!

Thanks for your concern, Nick. Put it down to inexperience on my part rolleyes.gif

Seriously though - I offered you 1 CP for your 6/12 DM (which you would have accepted if you hadn't decided you needed him) so an extra 1 CP for an extra 2 SL doesn't seem too bad to me. He becomes my 6th DF which I need unless I plan on playing a man out of position which would cost me at least 2 SL, or passive (ditto), or 3 DF and 5 MF from time to time. If he can help me avoid just 1 blowout then he saves me 120k.

He becomes my 13th= best player at least until mid-season ageing, after which he will still be in my T17. Amazingly I now have the 10th= T17 in Division 3

yeah good point steve, when you put it like that it doesnt seem so bad. SESL/goodluckicon.gif

i think its easy to get a bit too dependant on the player value guides. if everyone stuck to them trading would be boring and we would have nothing to talk about!
i nearly let my 6/12 DM go last week for 50 k, then realised i maybe went in too low, quite a few people were prepared to pay a bit more for him, but in the long run i thought he is worth more to me as a squad player, so i ended up holding on to him (and annoying a few bidders! apologies to those guys again! ph34r.gif )

You're right that there is no need to stick rigidly to the values in the spreadsheet. However, since some folks now have access to it while some don't, surely it would be better to make sure that at least everyone has it, if only as a safety net for newer managers.

There may be a glut of Age 1 players, depressing their value, which might be good for me, as I have a distinct lack of them. So, that might make them cheaper, but they would be worth more to a manager like me, looking to lower the average age of his squad, which could move the price back up again in some trades. That could then have a knock-on effect on TP prices, if Age 1 players are more evenly spread across all teams.

I and a couple of other managers (STE, GRE & HEA mgrs) are putting together a revised trade value sheet with some accompanying blurb which I'll put on the forum on Sunday.

As everyone says its not something to be stuck to rigidly - just an approximate value sheet as a guide.

Its in it final format pretty much just waiting any final tweaks or updates. If you can wait until Sunday then you will have your value sheet.

No Auctions can be a bit freakish and especially early ones as a lot of teams have small bank balances.

I was waiting for further feedback from the guys who reviewed it.

Nothing else in so I guess I'll post away.
