Buckie Thistle Div 2 Preview

In season 15 BUC will mostly be playing Early Cross team tactic.

Key players are Scott Laver,3,23,WG and Gavin Skelton,2,26,WG.

With a midfield spine of any 2 from these 4:-
Zico Davidson,2,23,MF
Frannie More,3,21,MF
Ian Ferguson,1,20,MF
Donnie Munro,1,17,MF

Low on high SL strikers is true, while the defence needs beefed up
a bit too after drawing a blank with sealed bids at the recent
live player auction. Richard Bowman,1,17,GK will see someone
specialized TP training so BUC are well covered in nets.

Looking at Div 2 as a whole, here are my top 6:-

1. SRA
2. HAM
3. HUN
4. GM
5. ALB
6. BER

BERWICK BOUNCEBACKABILITY ©sesl season 14 preview!

Bouncy bouncy bouncy bouncy
na na na na na!

So here we are once more...

Season 15 previews and predictions (that often come back and bite
you on the bum). With 4 teams coming down from Div 1, and 5
coming up from Div 3, then Div 2 is the freshest division going
with 9 new competitors compared to last season.

Here are BER we are also fresh. Well, every player is on EL 10
aren't they! Even those ABE players who are played in to the
ground each season but somehow survive.

The BER players are training hard ahead of the new season, and
rumours of them getting 'fresh' with the cheer leaders are unfounded. Indeed, some players have went way beyond 'fresh' but that is a story for the tabloids.

Here is all about looking forward and picking out the positives.
Those kind over-achievers at LIV have traded us a couple of top quality WG so the team tactics can now be varied between Early Cross and Ball Control. Our defence is a little lightweight still, but is young enough to be built upon with 3 high SL age 1 players ready for TP'ing.

The Berwick youth academy does not exist... so we were delighted the SESL Commissioner sent 2 young apprentices to join us. Eye brows were raised as to why they were yet more MF players rather than DF's. Could have been worse though and been yet more WG to add to the 5 WG's already at BER.

The catchphrase "you can never have too many WG's" will never catch on!

Only a fool would try and predict the promoted Div 2 teams,
so ever the fool, here I go...

1. HUN - Kevin over achieved last season and can build on that surprise success. Plenty high SL players to cover up for all the chaff in the squad. My tip as Champions. Will his pal Phil at CLY ever catch up with HUN now?

2. BUC - a solid roster squad with 8 players over 20 SL. assuming BUC add a decent DF from the auctions this season then they will stroll thru Div 2.

3. SRA - the manager may look like Kojac, but the SRA Board have a canny manager at the helm of SRA and could be saying 'who loves ya baby' come seasons end. Unlike the boss, SRA team have youth on its side!

4. GM - unlucky not to get promoted last season and my tip for promotion this term. this is a final shot at glory for Andrew Mackie as his squad could soon be on the decline, so seize the moment pal!

- ends -

Well just let me say I am overwhelmed by your confidence. I have not yet looked at all the other teams, but I fancy a nice mid table position will be mine at the end of the season.

In fact, given the great start to my cup run (sent orders but they didn't get used) I will be going nowhere. Now I am sure it will turn out to be my fault as usual, but SRA has a few youngsters who need to get their feet untangled its true.

I will post a fuller run down of my predictions when I have digested the whole division.

STE_Ricky- 08-22-2005
OK, its time we had our say at STE (For upto 300k who wont have their say!?!?), the first league games of the season are creeping up on us and its time to put the cat among the proverbial pigeons.

Im not going to beat about the bush this season. Last season we got what we wanted a crack at the cups and survival in the league, even if most felt the squad should have done better, i defend my actions as manager. You'll be happy to know, that this season im speaking out,

Prediction 1. STE to win the league!!!! its that simple, promotions on the cards and STE are aiming, this season, for the top!

Its been mentioned above that this is a fresh looking division, lots of new boys, those slumping down looking to go straight back where they came from and those who have come up on a high thinking the mighty are unstopable, let me tell you BER and Co. your wrong!

OK so apart from the obvious Stenny onslaught this season, what for the other teams?

ALB look well poised for a firm push and a good start to the season, and really should be disapointed with anything outside the top 2! no promotion would be appauling!
I can see Kev at HUN doing well, and hope they get the top 4 spot the team deserves.
The bad news of course is that BER's squad is well poised from a good promotion push, the only hope here is that managerial blunders can drag this team back to the third division where they deserve to be! (and with the management team its a good pssibiltity!!
BUC,STR and PT i think will struggle to push the top 4 this season, and it would take a great tactician to put any of these teams in the promotion places, not likely
GM and LIV have a good starting chance, realistically i think GM will struggle, but as ever would like to see them go up. LIV i think will fair well over the season, the squad will be hard pushed - especially in the middle but i think Adrian will have the experience to push into the top 4 if he wants to.
HAM should have done better last year and will pay the price this year, sliding to mid table at best - a GK fiasco and Nick will struggle to keep this team afloat.
Nev has mid-table written all over his Forfar side but has the experience to swing it round if he tries hard enough! realistically? - a lazy Nev struggles to keep FOR up!!
Ross County? - Mid table!
Stirling have an interesting squad to say the least some stars, some serious worries! top 4? possibly, bottom 4? possibly!!! Alfonso, show us what your made of!
Kev i hope you can work miracles, because this season you'll need one to keep AI up!! an old (dead?) defence and weak GKs AI will struggle!
Ayr need to make a signing or two two push top 4, mid table is likely - without the signings, relelgation will ahut them all season!
James will sink with RR, that looks certain, a lot of work needed to change the fortunes and destiny of this dismal looking squad!!

Hamilton Accies

Still have a reasonably good side from last season. Good up front and plenty of cover in midfield. Back up keeper looks a bit of a worry though? Lack of points also a major factor in choosing final position.

Predicted Finish – 11th

Greenock Morton
A lot of options up front and just enough cover at the back. Apprentice keeper will need to be trained up quickly if success is to come their way.

Predicted Finish – 9th

Buckie Thistle

Still have plenty to offer from last season. A good spread of talent with an extremely strong front line. Watch out for John Coutts.

Predicted Finish – 7th

Partick Thistle

A good average squad that will be suited to division 2 football. Two great strikers in Escalas and Grady, and a lot of expectation will be put upon their shoulders. Another team with back up keeper worries that could affect their chances of survival.

Predicted Finish – 14th

Forfar Athletic

Their average squad worked wonders last season, and their squad appears average once again. Take a look at both their cash bank and points bank, and you can see FOR are ready to build players up.

Predicted Finish – 10th

Stenhousemuir

Plenty of top quality players, once again backed up by ageing has beens. Need a better start than last season, and it is expected that they can do just that. Plenty of promise will be backed up by plenty of points.

Predicted Finish – 4th

Airdrie United

Not looking too promising as defence is still poor, and all expectations will once again be on their midfield. No recognised goalkeeper is also a worry, and relegation could well be looming. Saying that, most pundits had AI for the drop last season, and look what happened!

Predicted Finish – 16th

Ross County

Coming down from the top flight is hard to take, and teams will always be looking to bounce straight back. Unfortunately Ross do not look to have the squad to do it. But, a poor squad can always come good with a quality boss in charge, and there aren't many teams around that can boast a manager like Robin!

Predicted Finish – 12th

Stirling

The centre of the park looks weak, but they have a good defence and forward line to make up for it. Longballers/Early Crossers perchance? Will just drop into the bottom 4.

Predicted Finish – 13th

Raith Rovers

Another average squad that focuses on it's forward line. Great srikeforce with Kitson looking to be a revelation in the middle tier. Keep him injury and suspension free at all costs.

Predicted Finish – 15th

Livingston

Another team with a superb strikeforce and solid back line. Looks to be yet another longballing side that will do well this season.

Predicted Finish – 5th

Albion Rovers

A nice even spread of talent across the park with a very stable midfield. Chisholm should bang a few goals in this term. Our tip for the top.

Predicted Finish – 1st

Huntly

Great boss, great defence, good midfield and good strikers mean Huntly could well be challenging for a top four place.

Predicted Finish – 2nd

Stranraer

Captain Slog has quite an average side, but the defence has great potential. Plenty of investment will see them continuously rise this season.

Predicted Finish – 6th

Berwick

A great squad but the defence looks worryingly thin. Great midfield and good attacking options should see them do very well this term.

Predicted Finish – 3rd

Ayr Utd

Scraped through last season, which unfortunately means that the middle tier has yet again another Longball side. Typically wealthy in defence and attack, but nothing in the middle. A bit like their managers head! Longball = Top half (yaaaaaawwwwwwwwnnnnnn)

Predicted Finish – 8th

So come on, shoot us down!

BUC'ie Uppie

You've heard about 'keepie uppie' where a players keep the ball in the air for as many touches as possible using foot, knee or head.
Well this is the "BUC'ie Uppie". An update on BUC'ie happenings.

BUC sit mid table of Division 2 and that is OK. But things can change quickly so we need keep on our guard. Look at STE stuck to botton of table last week with zero points, then go and rattle in 10 goals to go mid table with 2 wins.
(the 6-1 defeat to STE last week is as bad as it's allowed to get).

Clearly its early days yet in this SESL Division 2 campaign and much jossling will continue while the 9 new teams in this division this season find their feet.
But its an encouraging start for BUC that sees 2 players in the current Division 2 "Team of the Season".
- DF Jimmy McLeish (BUC)
- MF Donnie Munro (BUC)

GK and defence is where the weakness lies and I hear like many teams we were disappointed to miss out on Berwick's 2/18 DF up for trade this session.

BER boss was difficult to deal with, but I guess Stewart was just trying to get the best deal possible.
