Israel managed to draw against them in both matches on the qulifying group for the Germany 2006, so there is still hope.

Yeah, McLeish is saying that the result with Georgia doesn't matter and in as far as we know we still have to get a result against Italy, then yeah, he's correct.
If we only get a draw then we need to get a win at home Vs. the Italians.
If we lose, the same applies, but what happens if we get two draws? Or lose tonight, but get the draw later?
Most folk think that means we're automatically out, but what if France don't do as well as expected?
They could draw tonight, or draw in the Ukraine.
In fact, we could go through with only 1 draw, but it's unlikely.
I'd certainly much rather win tonight and put pressure on the French for their final two games.
