Wanting to refresh the rules for next season the Expansion team part will need re-writing as it isnt based around the 20 mna squad rule and is certianly too low in total SL. I think this may have been mentioned on the forum in the last 6 months does any remember where or if a new proposal was put forward.?

Elgin_Boss- 11-10-2005
Fear not Ricky, I can't see STE being relegated this season and needing an expansion team in Div 3!

;-)

SeslDotNet- 11-10-2005
CURRENTLY
18 players with a total SL of 200.

AGE 0 SL 5 SL 5 SL 10 SL 10
AGE 1 SL 10 SL 10 SL 10 SL 10
AGE 2 SL 10 SL 15 SL 15 SL 20
AGE 3 SL 10 SL 10 SL 10 SL 10
AGE 5 SL 10 SL 20

This would be 2 GK 1 SW 5 DF 4 MF 3 WG 3 FW

PROPOSAL
20 players with a total SL of 250.

AGE 0 SL 5 SL 5 SL 10 SL 10
AGE 1 SL 10 SL 10 SL 10 SL 20
AGE 2 SL 5 SL 15 SL 15 SL 20
AGE 3 SL 10 SL 10 SL 10 SL 10
AGE 4 SL 20 SL 25
AGE 5 SL 10 SL 20

This would be 2 GK 1 SW 6 DF 5 MF 3 WG 3 FW

I Know Expansion teams shouldnt be world beaters, and should be evenly balanced, but at the start of this season in week 01 the division 3 teams were totl SL between 279 and 379. I would propose that an expansion team in todays climate be given at least a 280 total SL.
This figure would have to be under review periodically as rule changes etc affect the average SL within SESL. but starting an expansion team too weak would defeat the purpose of sending teams in the right direction!

Also i dont want to see stars handed out in expansion teams, but i would have an issue with Age 2 SL 5 player and the whole lot of Age 3 SL 10 players as these players in anyones books are too low SL for their age to be coached and therefore almost entirely redundant from the off.

What are other peoples thoughts?

The breakdown of players positions i feel is ideal.

STE_Ricky- 11-10-2005
For interests sake.

Week 1 of 3rd division this season started with the teams Average SL as

18.7
17.4
17.3
16.7
16.6
16.3
15.7
15.6
15.4
15.3
15.1
14.9
14.4
14.2
14.0
13.9

and this expansion team would give a 12.5 aberage SL.

There is of course a fine line between "rewarding failure" by giving a too strong expansion team, and setting an expansion team up as doomed to failure....

???

20 players with a total SL of 280 makes more sense then.

Thanks for your efforts here Ricky.

STE_Ricky- 11-15-2005
For info all: Mark will be building this into the rules for next season, but i shouldnt think anyone will need to use it.... *Cough* EF.....

QueensPark- 12-06-2005
I think a few teams may elect to re-new as expansion teams.

Maybe limit it to only every few seasons though?

SeslDotNet- 12-16-2006
Let me know if any Div 3 teams interested in refreshing their roster for start of next season.

from rules--

Teams that are in Division 3 with a manager who feels he cannot turn the club around, may, at the Commish’ discretion, start over as an expansion team.
Current actual bank totals, CP/TP, and OTF will carry forward to the expansion team (that will be likely named after the same team.)

update: see message a few below here for update.

280 SL seems about right. I've just looked at the old Deveronvale roster from the end of season 15 and with ageing it had 20 players with a total SL of 270. Three of those would have been 7/1 to 7/3 players and dropped but a 1/16 Bosman was added to make 18 players with a total of 280.

5 players a little above SL 20 (age 2 to 4)
6 players from 15 to 17 (age 1 to 4)
4 more in the teens (age 3 to 5)
3 below 10 (age 3 and 6)

David- 12-17-2006
At all times in the previous emails the tables only shows 18 players, and the talk is of pushing the totals from 18 players and 250 Sls to 20 players and 280 SLs.

However that is already in Rule B 9.0.

In addition the table quoted in Rule B 9.0 only shows 18 players totalling 230 SLs.[U]

Could you suggest and print a definitive table for 20 players totalling 280 SLs

I notice there are no age 4 players, and the suggested age 0s and 1s would require
80 TPs just to train up these lads alone. Perhaps slightly more age 2 and one (or 2) less 0 and 1s might help.

Only a suggestion. SESL/goodluckicon.gif

SeslDotNet- 12-17-2006
Seems David is correct. Total SL is wrong, and seems age 4 has been missed out!

OK, as rules are about 2 seasons out of date, I am proposing 18 players and 250 SL. This is still 50 SL up on original, and I think 280k is a bit generous.

Also, remember a free Bosman player (1/16 often) may be added to this, so that is why I would drop a couple of age 1 from original. Would leave 19 players starting, with total SL 266 approx.

Start-over "expansion teams" would receive the following resources:
18 players with a total SL of 250.
Age 0: SL 5, SL 5, SL 10, SL 10,
Age 1: SL 10, SL 20,
Age 2: SL 10, SL 15, SL 15, SL 20,
Age 3: SL 10, SL 10, SL 20, SL 20,
Age 4: SL 15, SL 25,
Age 5: SL 10, SL 20,
Generally this would be 2 GK, 1 SW, 5 DF, 4 MF, 3 WG, 3 FW

Quick update to this topic from one who knows!!!! SESL/abigcry.gif

DUM started season 18 with -

age 0 - SL 5, SL 5, SL 10, SL 10
age 1 - SL 10, SL 10, SL 10, SL 20
age 2 - SL 10, SL 15, SL 15, SL 20
age 3 - SL 10, SL 10, SL 15, SL 20
age 4 - SL 10, SL 15
age 5 - SL 10, SL 20

Perhaps I could have done better than last place in the league - probably, but not much better.

For what it's worth, I would recommend some changes to the above for anyone else who tries the expansion route.

Firstly there are no players over SL20 although at least one of the previous options has at least one player at SL25.

Secondly there are too many crap players who don't even feature as 'squad' players.

To overcome these two problems, I would suggest that at least 2, but more likely 4, SL 10 players be scrapped and their SL should be spread to others. I would scrap one SL 10 guy at ages 1, 2, 3 and 5 or ages 2, 3, 4 and 5. That gives you 40 SL to spread around.

How about this...

age 0 - SL 5, SL 5, SL 10, SL 10
age 1 - SL 10, SL 15, SL 15, SL 20
age 2 - SL 15, SL 15, SL 25
age 3 - SL 15, SL 15, SL 20
age 4 - SL 25
age 5 - SL 20

That's only 16 players, but with a Bosman, you're up to 17 and two of them are SL 25. It's not brilliant, but it's better than no players higher than SL 20.

It won't affect me again, unless I'm asked to take over some piss poor team in the future, but it might help you SESL/wink.gif

Surprised more Div 3 teams do not consider the expansion team route.

Yes expansion is an option that some managers should consider, but not by unbalancing other teams with a fire sale.
