Forwards and goalies

I think that these are the most important positions on the roster, and I am sure that almost everyone agrees on that point.

So the main question which is more important.

Why should the question come up?
Because each club has a limited amount of resources and it's best to use them efficiently.

Sesl is a league which gives 3 points for a win and 1 point for a draw.
So it's better to win one game and lose the one after it, rather than get 2 draws.

Goalies don't win games, their job is to prevent the opposition from winning. supposing you managed to keep a clean net for the entire match, it does not guarentee a win. You still have to score.

Besides, even the best of goalies don't have a say when it comes to Free kicks and Corner kicks. Which means that even if your GK stoped all shots, you could still conceed goals to Free kicks and Corner kicks.

Forward,
He is the one that scores your goals, most of them.
If you don't score, you can't win.

Supposing you are facing a team that has weak forwards, then it is very likely they will not score against you even if you have an averaged GK.

But your team on the other hand has a good chance to score if your FW is of star quality.

Another point is the fact that GKs only face those shots that are on target, a weak FW misses the goal on a lot of occasions (which means that even a 1 SL goalie can look at those balls flying to the stands or hitting birds way up in the sky), but a good FW rarely shoots of target.

GKs have an advantage over the shooting player, you need to shoot with 5 SL advantage on your shooting SL in order to have a 50%-50% chance of scoring.

Let's not forget that once a GK plays aggressively he increases his chances of stoping a shot, but the shooting SL does not improve as a result of playing aggresively.

All of this suggets that it is more important to have a top FW than a top GK.

In conclusion, I would like to say that GKs are important. Having a couple of weak GKs could get a team relegated. But so can having no one that scores goals.

If a team has only 10 CPs, best use them on the FW.

Should 20 CPs be availabe, investing the extra 10 CPs on the GK could be a good policy.

But if you have 30 CPs don't go for the back up goalie, better to have 2 scorers around.

What to do with 40 CPs? I think that a third FW is better.

Don't forget that the backup goalie plays just 1 out of every 3 matches. A real luxury.

May I be the first to congratulate you Yoav, on an excellent 1 to 1 discussion SESL/wink.gif

So in conclusion, you think that it would be good for every team to have GK's, DEF's, MF's and FW's.......am I right??

This thread as a few goals.

The most important one is to give new managers ideas about the game, a bit of advise and some insight.

Also to get other managers to share their own view on these ideas.

Another thing is to encourage people to explore new possibilities for roster building and tactics other than just the main stream approach.

Who knows, maybe some of the things I wrote actually make sense. SESL/jester.gif

I agree with Yoav, although Yoav's argument against also has a few good points.

All in all, despite Yoav's good arguing point, I think I will have to side with Yoav.

Definitely.... SESL/clap.gif

Seriously though, your point of FW's actually getting the 3 pts by winning matches hits the nail on the head. I would rather go for my FW up to plus 30SL and settle for a GK on SL29, than the other way around for example.

airdrieboss- 04-10-2005
Ah, but do not forget that you can mark a FW, but you can't mark a GK!

airdrieboss- 04-10-2005
Excellent point airdrieboss, i must say that i agree with you!

Ah, that swings it for me then............. MF is the most important player for me BECAUSE, if you have a complete waste of space there, you can stick him in and play LONGBALL all day, so he doesn't get a touch.

That way, he can't be to blame if anything goes wrong as he never gets anywhere near the play SESL/wink.gif

Yoav 1: Poses an interesting question
Yoav 2 : I like what you said
Yoav 3 : Makes some interesting points and states an obvious fact
Yoav 4 : Concludes self contained argument by offering an opinion

These are the kind of quality posts that make this game so addictive!?!?

New managers beware of trying to make sense of Yoav speak as it takes many seasons experience to figure it out depending on what Yoav is speaking.

SESL/goodluckicon.gif

And at the end of the day you have to score goals to win games, so having a top FW wins over GK every time in my opinion

Beagle- 04-10-2005
Obviously, the main point of this thread is to allow Yoav to boost his # of posts and post rating. SESL/awhack.gif

yoav- 04-11-2005
Actually, the reason why I wrote my points of a number of sepearate but consecutive posts instead of one long post was because it is easier to stay focused with each point taking just a few sentences instead of reading on and on a lengthy posts and then forgetting half the stuff by the time you get to the end.

Is there any importance to the amount of posts one write? unsure.gif
Qouting out of las-*test*-('") CLY press "1. Quality over Quantity" but I'll paraphrase it into "short and simple over lengthy and complicated" SESL/goodluckicon.gif

This is one of the funniest threads I've read in a while... priceless!
...and yet Yoav makes a good argument for newbie bosses, please don't take offence at what we manage to find humour in Yoav.

Beagle- 04-12-2005
Actually, Yoav, you extracted massive quantity from miniscule quality! Fantastic! How you do that? SESL/jester.gif
