Just wondering how folk discovered SESL - I don't think its the type of thing you would happen to stumble across.

In most instances I would assume its via other managers introducing you or through managers you know that play other leagues as well as SESL.

For my sins, CEL manager told me about SESL and had the misfortune of him mentoring me in my first season. SESL/awall.gif

How long have you all been playing PBEM games for as well?

For me, SESL was the first PBEM game I'd played so I'm a relative newby to the whole concept, though this is my third season in SESL, I'm still learning all the time.

Mark invited me to play.

Been playing and running pbem games since 1995, and also ran a postal games magazine since 1984

1st season in SESL
1st season in MSWL
4th season in PSFA
6th season in Striker

also been playing postal in various places for ummm... 26yrs

The blame lies with our commish SESL/sunshine.gif

He invited me me over when we chatted on PSFA (my original league)

PBEM begun for me around the new millenia, via diplomacy games. As a football fan it was only natural that upon stumbling on the Psychopath community I signed on the PSFA waiting list. SESL/fingersXicon.gif

Our master Mechanic above (Clive - SRA boss) has mentored me with my 1st steps as football manager. SESL/goodluckicon.gif

Cheers,
Yoav

Fellow manager Nick Tippins told me about SESL (we were both playing on the now defunct FLM site at the time - where I managed Crewe before taking over at Newcastle)

Been involved in SESL since Season 6 or 7 (St Mirren prior to Arbroath)

Only other PBEM I play is another fellow manager's site (Kev Hull's) Saturday Soccer (Everton)

(Congratulations to Kev this week by the way on the birth of his son, Callum)

I have considered joining another league at various times but don't think I would have sufficient spare time for another league at the minute...

Gabbarelli- 01-20-2005
I was first told about it when I bumped into our Commish at our local Celtic Supporter's club meeting....

Ahem... (cough)... I mentor you, you get promotion...

Who are you mentoring currently, Cowdenbeath is it, let's see, how has your influence improved their fortunes, where are they placed? SESL/awhack.gif

So that's who we have to blame then! SESL/wink.gif

I saw of this through SaSo, and I saw that through a little bit of advertising by Sir Hull on the SoccerAM Forums. I've been playing since the end of summer last year, I think.

It's been so long I can't remember. Somehow, I must have run into Mark via MSWL. I think that he personally invited me, and offered a choice of several teams. As I own a cat named Clyde, it was natural to select Clyde FC from the bunch. I think that was in season two, or maybe three.

Browsing through the many pages that google gave me after searching for fantasy football gam,es, it gave me an old SESL page. E-mailed Mark and the rest is history.

From there i play/played in:

iFLM, MSWL, SFLSL, PSFA, FLATNZ, GOAL

And i now also run my own league called Saturday Soccer

Les, thanks for the mention of the little 'un.

While i'm here i'll post a small pic of his first few days!

i gotinto PBM through Pagoda Ganes (after a referral from a mate)

Then saw SESl listed via the PBM games website online. I think its on www.pbem.com, but I havent been for a while so may not remember well at this time of night - and I'm not checking.

Then joined SESL, then GOAL, then MSWL for a short while and now in SESl and MSWL only. GOAL has disappeared with Gareth for a while - not sure whats happened to him though I suspect that like a lot of freeby game owners he just got sick of it and quit without telling the players. Happens.

Our Commish invited me to play after seeing my name on the MSWL waiting list. I had heard of SESL on the PSFA forum.

First PBEM game was on Diplomacy 2000 in August 1999 and in November I became a GM. Mike Dean of Psychozine asked for my help in setting up mapping for Dip variants in 2001(?) and slowly I've put more effort into the latter site anf joined PSFA at the end of season 3.

After some outstanding advice from guru mentor ELG, Cowdenbeath pull of what must surely go down as one of the all time shock cup results.

Does the pupil now have the beating of the teacher? We must be told!

Final Score: CEL 2 -- COW 3

Les, thanks for the mention of the little 'un.

Congrats Kev to you and your good lady on birth of your baby Callum.

My wee yin is aged 1 tomorrow, so if you want any advice.... ask someone else as I'm too exhausted to help!

Now, before Father-To-Be CEL_guy Gab shouts at me for going off topic....

How did I discover SESL?
I followed an advert on a Rangers fan forum to play in Sunday League Soccer (SLS) ran by Yogi from Glasgow. It was fun, so I thought I'd run my own game and named it after the company I worked with at the time Scottish Electricity Settlements Limited (SESL)!

SESL started with 10 teams initially, but demand put it to 16 teams after pre season trial games. My initial policy was to have minimum 50% managers who never played in any other MSWL-clone leagues. A few original guys are still in SESL today (ABE, ROS and a few others I think)

SESL added D2 and D3 after 2 seasons,
and since then has had 824 rule changes (joking)

A fine win Alan! In fact a successful session all round for you.

Showed up that CEL guy for the muppet he is!

And can I just point out I got ELG promo in my second season, after I ditched CEL guy as my mentor! SESL/tongueout.gif

KILLIE- 01-24-2005
I found a link to SESL on the MSWL web site. Put my name on the waiting for SESL, MSWL and SLS (Sunday League Soccer). Got my first call up from Yogi at SLS, then Mark called me up at SESL for Season 3 , then got a call up from Al at MSWL. played a season in SLS before it shutdown, played the second half of season in MSWL before Al cut a bunch of teams to consolidate his league. Resigned from SESL at the end of Season 3 after spare time evaporated with new job.

after a couple of years of real life interruptions, came back and appoached Mark and Al if they had any vacancies. Got luck and picked up teams in both league (Season 8 in SESL). then joined FLATNZ, The Manager, FLM and one other I cannot remember. After 12 month's playing in six leagues, found I was over committed and resigned postions at The Manager and FLM, the other one I can't remember. This has allowed me to focus on SESL, MSWL and FLATNZ.
