How does Anderlecht sound?

And with a transfer restriction of 4 signings per season - so we all operate with fairly similar squads?

Some decent players already there, young DC's Vanden Borre and Kompany.
Midfielders Baseggio and Wilhelmson aswell as star forward Aruna...

Also £3.5m transfer funds to start with....

Sounds good to me, i'll get mine started now SESL/goodluckicon.gif

Considering the way his namesake manages teams, I wouldn't be at all surprised SESL/jester.gif

Anderlecht was a good choice for challenge. user posted image

Not sure their preferred 3-4-3 formation is going to work in European games though.
I may go to a 442 for the Champions League matches.

I like this months challenge SESL/clap.gif

Just finished my first season and its a league and cup double for the boys from Anderlecht.
Signed experienced Brazilian left mid Zinho before last season and then Gk Bogdan Lobont and MF Scott Parker in January.
This pre season has seen the arrival of Mikeal Forsell, Robson Ponte and Pieter Collen so i have one transfer left should i need to add later on.

Fair few players sold too including star forward Aruna who got all star struck on me and wanted to leave for greener pastures. So off he went to Deportivo in return for £6.5m.

MF Scott Parker a good signing user posted image

I cannot get my Anderlecht to win a match in Champions League though.
League play is easy enough though,
but Kompany and Aruna want away already!

Gabbarelli- 06-29-2005
First few games under my belt.

Qualified for CL by beating Dinamo Bucharest home and away.
Tough group though, Lyon, Celtic and Inter.

League going well, unbeaten in first few games.

Signed DC Pavel Besta and FC Daniel Fredheim Holm, both settled in superbly.
Plus 2 youngsters for future, Pole Bak AM RC, and Bulgar Todorov AM/F C.

Aruna a bit unhappy bit banging in the goals all the same... SESL/goodluckicon.gif

Lyon, Celtic and Inter all sound like top 1 or 2 seeds.

I guess Anderlecht would be in pot 4 of Champions League draw, but that is 3 big clubs to be grouped with.

Any wins would be a real bonus.

Gabbarelli- 07-02-2005
First CL win, a 3-0 victory at Celtic Park.... SESL/awhack.gif

Update at end of first season:-

Belgian Champs, by 10pts from Club Brugge.
And won the Belgian Cup with a victory over Cercle Brugge AET in the Final.
Also beat Club Brugge in the Belgian Super Cup around December time I think it was.

CL - finished 2nd in that tough group (Inter hammered everybody!)
Tough draw v Real Madrid in 1st knockout phase, brave 5-3 defeat in Madrid, followed by 2-2 draw at home meant I was out.

Aruna sold as he would not sign new contract - rivals Club Brugge only club that would meet my £6.5m valution though.....!

Mikael Forsell brought in as his replacement.
Jan Lastuvka brought in as new Goalkeeper.
Mike Zonneveld at left back.

And currently on hunt for 4th signing before the season commences....

Albion Rovers- 07-11-2005
League champs.

roll on season 2 and a decent crack at Europe.

SeslDotNet- 07-13-2005
Season 1: League Champions. Europe a failure.

Season 2: top of league currently (in Janaury). 3rd in Champ League group and now in UEFA cup. To play Brugges in national cup next so 50/50.

Standard Liege seem a good team.
Oostende have a wealth of youth and I have loaned a few players to them and they are sitting mid table which is good for such a small club.

Gabbarelli- 07-17-2005
Season 2 Just finished, and another domestic clean sweep, league by 9 pts, beat Westerlo in the Belgian Cup Final, and Club Brugge in Super Cup.

Good European season too, undefeated in group stage, weak group though, Sporting, Panathinkaikos and Banik Ostrava. Then a superb overturning of Inter in 1st KO round, 2-0 win at home, and 1-1 in the San Siro. Luck ran out in Quarter Final though, drew 0-0 at home v Roma, then at 1-1 in 2nd Leg in Rome, them pesky Italians scored a winner in the 87th minute.

2 players lined up for Season 3 so far - Shunsuke Nakamura AM/F LC from Reggina, and Arouna Kone SC from Roda JC.
