However, when teams have mattured it gets more interesting. The fixed bonus from Ball Control's OTF reduces in effectiveness versus Longball domination. The arguements have been well put so far for FW & GK. Both look good, but for my money a solid DF is the man.

The DF stops shots even from being made, so you can settle with a lesser GK, and invest instead in a good FW (to win matches, rather than draw them as Yoav mentions).

Clive's got a point there. SESL/cool.gif
Actually, strong defense got me my 1st (and only) championship and I used the Normal tactic rather than Ball control.
My 2 goalies and 2 forwards really sucked on that particular season since they were all apprentices, so it was upto my midfileders to get me the goals and the DFs and SWs were responsible to protect the goal. But it was the closest season ever with 3 teams fighting for the title all the way only to be decided in the final session.

But can this approach succeed on current Sesl?
There are so many star FWs and goalies, it might be harder on the MFs to score enough and even when you give away very few shots, a star FW only need one good shot in order to overcome a weak goalie.

All we need is a volunteer to step forward and give it a try SESL/sunshine.gif

6th - WG - add a lot to OFF, but IMO only really useful if you have 2 top ones and play Early Cross.

I don't really agree with that. I have Craig Conway 2/27 WG, who I often play as a lone WG with 2 or more FW in a longball game and he does very well. Scored 3 goals so far.

Nillis, looks like your on to something good, keep it up SESL/goodluckicon.gif

...maybe Yoav is trying to say that he's bound to Division One, as in...tied or chained so that nothing can drag his team away from it. SESL/header.gif

Actually, the signature was conjured up while still on div2, so it was intended to signify what Robin figured. But after reading Robin's post I made a wee alteration to it. SESL/sunshine.gif

Well Yoav, someone was bound to notice your signature eventually.

...bound and determined!

Next season I plan to build up my midfield and counter those Long Ball merchants.

1. GK is still the key position in the sesl.
2. MF
3. FW
4. DF
5. SW
6. WG

Beagle- 07-14-2005
You were bound to do it sooner or later.

WeeBeardyBloke- 07-14-2005

bound to do what?

Beagle- 07-23-2005
