You may have noticed, the SESL Cup group stages start on Saturday.

The 5 group matches will then be played every second day until they are complete. SAT,MON,WED,FRI and SUN.

I was wondering what everyone thought about running the mid-week games in the evening, with a 7.30 - 9.00 kickoff?

It makes no difference to me - I have no Tinterweb connection at the moment.

It might be more trouble than it's worth as Al Sellers would have to change the deadline (I believe). It might make it easier for the mid-west Americans to have a 1 PM kick-off rather than a 9 AM one and that's the only reason I'd suggest a change.

Myself, I'd love Friday's game to be at noon or Sunday's game to be in the evening because I'm away from home between then and have no idea if I can get internet access.

The 15:00 GMT kick offs are great mid week, as while you are flagging at work then you have a match or two to look forward to at 4pm.
Perfect. biggrin.gif

However, it is a fair idea, and maybe in future cup games could all be evening ones to help our American friends submit during the day instead of always the night before.

The risk is managers get mixed up without a predictable and consistant deadline time.

Why change for change sake !?

Why change for the sake of change?

That was constructive!

Change? It's nice to discuss possible changes, like the new no trade rule. Oh, that's right it got changed for the sake of change... I'd put this on the 24 hour no trade thread but there isn't one.

Nice idea Graeme, but I have to agree with Jackie, it might confuse. It's easy for us to switch on to Sat=afternoon KO and Midweek=evening KO, but that might not be as easy in other areas of the world.

But it's always been a rule since I've been on SESL.

Yes - same here since season 6.

Prior to the fully web-based SESL all trades were done AFTER the Saturday games, so everyone knew what was in the others lineups since the squads were fixed when the mails came out.

The 24 hour trade deadline when the web based system came about was done on an "honour" system, but there were loads of trades either ignoring it or unaware of it so they changed the software to enforce it.

Apologies to DUM boss Scootie.
I was not trying to be anti-constructive, but more just throwing in a 'funny' and my icon graphic titled 'say nowt' with sticky tape over his mouth would maybe have suggested that.
But with written text, it is easy to mislead, I am sorry.

The 24 hour trade ban is the way to go and it is right this rule is now enforced, as some were flaunting it (without knowing about rule likely) so now we are all playing by same rules.
Which is nice. tongue.gif

No problem Stewart.

I remember the old way of doing trades. You submitted the trade to the Commish before the deadline. At any time before the deadline, but the trade was completed after the matches had been played so that the rosters reflected the trades made at that session.

One bonus was that everyone knew everyone else's roster and it didn't change until after the next set of matches. One problem was that you could arrange to buy a player that appeared to be fit and healthy but when he got transfered, he'd been played twice and/or injured - DOH! To avoid that we could add conditionals in, but the on-line trades are brilliant now.

I actually agree with the 24 hour 'rule' being enforced. I also think it funny that those who shouted loudest were the biggest 'offenders' earlier in the season... :-)

Anyway, this thread was for sumit else....

Oh yes... times for midweek games. Leave it alone.

Another great addition this year, I forgot that one when I was posting in the the good the bad and the ugly thread.
