If Al Sellers was prepared to run the Olmec Cup alongside SESL/MSWL/SFLSL
(As such it would only include these 3 leagues in the OLMEC family) would you support its Revival?
Could you spare any on-line time to join a think tank to work out rules/ strategies?
I would be prepared to 'Chair' the panel & collate ideas etc. & liease with Al.

Olmec Cup definitely sounds like a good idea.
More than willing to lend my "online labour" needed in that direction.

Few questrions:

WHEN would the Olmec cup be played?

WOULD it be once a year?

WHAT prizes on offer, or just for prestige only?

I spoke to Commish Mark before about Olmec Cup, and his idea back then was to have "Guest players" to help balance out the leagues a little.

So with SESL in season 20, and SFSLS in season 2 or whatever, then the player Skill Levels could vary greatly.

So SFSLS could have a 5/30 guest player (former international standard player) join the team for Olmec cup games only.

Similarly, MSWL may need a 5/20 type guest player to balance the teams a little, although I have no idea what strength the average MSWL team is (but note Alon Aties league leader team is a bit of a freak high MSWL team that no team in SESL could compete with.)

Alternatively you could jsut play with rosters as they are, as from before it was not necessarily the highest SL teams that represented SESL in this inter league play. I think it was voted on, or achieved some other way.

On a serious note,
The 'leveling of the playing field' is a very difficult one, especially due to SFLSL's embryonic nature.

and here's the rub; there are some Managers involved in all 3 current OLMEC leagues and some more involved in just 2, so a 'conflict of interests' is definitely a problem for the future.
Obviously if you were in the position of being invited by two leagues through whatever qualification process, then you would only be allowed to participate with 1 team, but what of the other team in the other OLMEC league? Would they suffer as a result? Or would that be a benefit to other teams with the 'better' managers/teams being involved in another tournament and their players suffering from EL and suspension?

Who knows...!?

Doing the treble, as far as I know, has never been done, but the opportunity of a quadble? well there you go, I can't even think what you'd call it, but it would be an attraction or maybe a distraction but certainly inaction will end this topic...

Good luck Dave in resurrecting this competition, it won't be for what it was originally intended, but it will be for today and the modern OLMEC who brings us ODFL at one end and an Elitist Cup Tournament at the other... bring it on!

I totally disagree that it is an issue if some leagues have different strengths.

The Czech and Dutch teams don't get free players to compete in the Champions league

^ Could not agree more!
Hopefully something can be worked out. But should never be expecting to get a level playing field in terms of SL. But that should not be the sole reason to put off the plans for reviving OLMEC Cup.

BTW I am Sumit (know that brings out Who the heck is Sumit? response)..Currently a caretaker at SRA..

Yeah it's hard being a newbie!

Thanks for the interest & questions/ ideas
These & other issues are being negotiated with the 3 OLMEC league commissioners & an update will be issued shortly

Well done Dave Dowson for resurrecting Olmec Cup inter league play.

A top banana

To encourage a wider interest in Olmec Cup, why not have 1 team attending after being voted on by SESL'ers.

So Div 1 Champs could go, SESL Cup winners and CECIL Cup winners.
4th team could be voted on my manager, from a short list drawn up by Commish or Dave Dowson.

Just a suggestion.

I found this late - and just voted 2. YES but I cannot help

Looks a great tourney, and full cudos to Dave Dowson as Commish and reviver of inter league Olmec Cup.

One puzzlement: why was a caretaker manager winning this?
Hope the BOA manager had a water-tight note from him Mum
to excuse his Olmec Cup abscence! tongue.gif
