SeslDotNet- 08-14-2007
Notice given to plan on changing SESL schedule from 2 league matches on a Saturday,
to 1 league match Saturday, 1 league match Monday, and any Cup match on the Wednesday.

Around this mid season I shall trial the 5 sesl cup group stage matches on alternate days and see if this adds to the excitement and buzz on the Blog etc.

Then for 2nd half of this season, we may move to the Saturday & Monday league match set up.

Spacing matches out would mean things like injuries could be better accounted for I suppose.

That's the biggest advantage, especially with more injuries occurring. Some managers can get online after the first game on Saturday and take into account injuries and suspensions (if a player is going to be suspended you may as well play him in the second match as it stands now).

Main disadvantage is for those that can't get online as much as others where they might have to submit two lineups anyway.

Overall I'm sitting on the fence SESL/jerkit.gif

I like the idea for the SESL Cup to be run on alternate days, but only because of recent rule changes. SESL/abigcry.gif

For the entire season...? aye... yer probably right... but......

One thing I'd like... is midweek deadlines moved from 15.00 to 20.00 this would save me from getting the sack, from my REAL job, as I nearly did last season, when I Jet Lee'd my PC Monitor out the window when my GK was sent off in THE cupfinal!

I think it will a great addition to the game. Really looking forward to the intense unique nature the SESL group stages will have with a quick fire nature of getting the games in will produce.

Yea Great innovations Mark!
Excellent stuff! SESL/goodluckicon.gif
More realistic having a game on Saturday then a game on Monday!
Not sure Jose Mourinho Or Alex Fergusson would approve! SESL/Moonie.gif
The Alternate days schedule for the cup will certainly liven up the site
Lets hope every body can keep up or we will get the usual excuses & moans from the usual suspects !
BUT I LIKE!!! SESL/header.gif SESL/cool.gif SESL/header.gif

I'm not so keen on so many matches one after the other.

I know this might come as a shock to some of you SESL/tongueout.gif but some of us do have a life outside SESL and things that mean matches every other day become something we cant necessarily commit to.

I'll give it a go, but if its not possible to commit enough time I'll have to consider my place in SESL if it becomes a regular thing.

The Saturday/Monday thing isnt so much of a hassle since I tend to read the results on a Saturday and that should give a window of opportunity to update the lineups for Monday, but a game every other day in the cup may be a bit much.

Seems like a good idea, but long weekends are now out for SESL managers!

My one request is to maintain a two game session. If suspensions carry from Saturday to the Monday game this really does disadvantage those managers who are unable to do a match between Saturday and Monday.

I also agree with Otig71 in that we should move the deadline back to 8:00 in the evening, if we want mid week games lets have them at the right time SESL/clap.gif (perhaps 7:45 and we have to sit with a spotlight only on the screen!) Also it gives a few extra hours for those orders.

I also agree that this change is not a good one. I don't like to speak against a rule that apparently has already been decided upon, but SESL should move toward inclusion of managers, not exclusion. This rule change will work to the disadvantage of managers that are active outside of SESL in a manner that doesn't keep them close to the computer at all times. Sure, you can send lineups early, but that puts your team at a disadvantage since you create lineups unaware of your EL, your opponents EL, suspensions, injuries, or standings.

I say that this change only ensures more NMR's, and it's not quite right to change a long-standing rule and later say, "you must not be that interested in SESL" if one can't keep up.

Personally i like the idea but wouldnt say it gives many positives over 2 games on the saturday. I would have no issues getting lineups in but i would worry that some might.

Lets try a Poll...

Mid-season changes to rules/scheduling that weren't made clear up front is a little unsettling. I'll give it a go and try to keep up, though I will be honest in my opposition to the change. For those of us with M-F, 8-5 jobs, the Fri-Sun night weekend is our getaway time for family or short weekend trips away from home. There will be several weekends coming up this season where I KNOW I will have no time to set a Monday line without sacrificing sleep time (and thus hurting work performance the next day) for what is supposed to be a recreational activity. Scheduling personal and family life around games is backwards and shouldn't be required on a regular basis.

Yes, I know I can submit lines in advance. Yes, you know that leaves me at a possible severe disadvantage if injury/suspension occurs to my scheduled GK or top MF/WG/FW who I was counting on for area stats, not to mention loss of TP/CP opportunity because the planned guy ended up not playing. Those who can and do log on every day are already rewarded through increased revenue in press/participation awards. Penalizing those who can't with a worse chance of winning due to lack of up-to-date information is too much.

Further food for though: the majority of managers who would be opposed to this won't be posting on these forums because they already don't have the extra time. They log on for an hour or so twice per week to check results, read the journals and blogs and reply occasionally, enter lineups and then they're gone. If you're looking to push those guys out of the league this is a very good first step. Harsh? Yeah, and probably a little overdramatized for effect. I think I'm right though, and the league had better be real sure this is what it wants before this pattern becomes anything other than an experiment.

Agreed. 127.3%

This idea has today been officially shelved!

Thanks for input, and league match sessions will remain as they are:
2 league matches on a Saturday.

However, 5 sesl cup group matches will still be speeded up this year following complaints the sesl cup group matches dragged on too long last season.

I will now lock this thread to prevent any future confusion in case this discussion was to continue.
