Talk on forum is a game every other day in the SESL Cup group stage, at least.

Those saying it is "a bit much" have maybe overlooked they can submit lineups IN ADVANCE.

Instead of 2 matches on a Saturday, its 1 match on Saturday then Monday, so you just submit 2 lineups as normal, and IF you have time between Saturday and Monday then you may adjust your 2nd lineup.

If no time, then it is absolutely no different to a pair of games an hour apart on a Saturday!

hear hear mr livie. I totally concur. I for one look forward to the SESL group stage happening in one week, instead of over 5 weeks.

I think it will be spicer than Sri Lanka curry.

I guess the next question is WHEN are the sesl cup group matches.
Normally mid season point.

Also, how about all 5 matches of sesl cup group games are in SAME session, so no issues with suspensions kicking in until end of cup group stage?

This would allow managers to submit 2 or 3 lineups in advance at a time, with only random injuries to contend with to alter an odd players along the way perhaps.

Think you answered your own question there matey! Sesl cup group matches are normally mid season point.

There are 52 matches in total, and cecil cup final is 26 or 27 I think.
So the 5 Sesl cup group matches would be scheduled around the 2nd week of October.

i would be in favour of the 5 quick-fire matches being in SAME session, so no issues with suspensions kicking in until end of cup group stage.

Although expect the inevitable backlash from the sesl elders
who are negative to any new suggestions, it seems! ph34r.gif

Injuries would still be an issue with this super SESL group stage, and would be actually make the EL planning extremely difficult.

We should remember that just because something is new it doesn't automatically make it better. One small problem with 5 games in 1 session is that come the end of the 5 games some teams might end up with 3 or 4 suspensions in 1 go. Some squads might not cope and it might have a major impact on a completely different competition, the league.

Good points, well made there.

How about a 3 match session, then a 2 match session?

So Sat-Mon-Wed, then a break for suspensions to be applied, and then go Sat-Mon again.

That seems the perfect option, as Wed to Saturday is the normal schedule just now for teams still in Cecil Cup, plus look at the buzz of interest with the Monday matches this week.

Sure gives an added interest to the working day, as its not only the Boomtown Rats who 'dont like Mondays' .....

I think 1 game per session is the way forward but I can understand that there are those sad individuals who have lives outside this game that may not find this suitable. rolleyes.gif

It sounds like all are in favor of a new group stage set up whereby games are run every two days...

First, consider why the group stages were placed withing the league schedule and scattered throughout: it gives more teams an opportunity to compete for that title because teams have to make a choice between the Cup or the league title. A change will make it favorable for league powers to take the Cup as well.

Second, there needs to be some level of consistency with the SESL schedule. I, for one (and I may be the only one) prefer to make my lineups out knowing what players I have available, what condition my opponent's EL is in, and where we are in the table. Sure, you can just tell managers to submit lineups in advance, but in my opinion that puts some at a true disadvantage.

Before this goes any further, someone will need to clarify whether or not multiple games over a span of a few days even CAN be one session under the current program code. I think they need to be run back to back immediately to be the same session, or else you start getting errors, etc. like what blacked out the Saturday matches a few weeks back.

If they can't be considered one session, then suspensions and injuries could have a signficant impact on lines (especially since they've both been boosted this season to occur more frequently). With rapid match successions you are going to have managers with injured/suspended players in their lines creating havoc on the EL management and lineup strength. Requiring managers to log on and adjust their lines every 24-48 hours when that's not what they signed on to do when the season started doesn't seem right. The Sat/Wed schedule is about as quick as I think we can go without having NMRs pop up frequently and constant complaints surfacing on the blog.

A game every other day in the SESL Cup group stage if worth a try.

It may not be ideal for everyone, but lets not be scared of change.

Experimenting during 5 cup group play matches seems the ideal time as stakes not as high for league matches, and 2 wins from 5 cup group matches should see a top 4 group finish from the 6 teams I guess.

Seems to have been a success all round ?

Quickfire matches have prevented the sesl cup groups dragging on and on, so this was a worthwhile experience / experiment.

I'm new to this, so I thought that was the normal schedule for the SESL.
I did find it pretty exciting as, all week, I had a game to look forward to.
I did nearly miss a couple of games, as real life reared it's ugly head (not everyone works Mon-Fri, 9-5), so I wouldn't like it to happen every week.

For those that appear to believe that submitting 2 or 3 lineups in advance, or even 5 lineups!!, has no effect, compared to playing against teams who submit 1 lineup at a time, could you please take that to it's logical extreme and submit all your matches from now until the end of the season please?
Thanks.
