Can the SESL Cup draw be made live, in the same chat room as live auction took place at start of season?

Just a suggestion.

I've asked Commish if we could have a random draw, whether it be fully random like it is in MSWL, or have seedings but still have random group placings.

I would gladly help run this if needed, I already have an idea how set up the initial conditions which can be checked afterwards. That is if Commish didn't have the time to do it himself.

The MSWL live draw is great fun.

The rules used to state the groups were based on league finishes the previous season, I think. Or based on league rank when we used the previous offline software, so maybe that is not applicable anymore.

The HIB boss has a chat room that was used well for live auction before,
so if you have a plan how to co-ordinate this Steve, then post up all the details and get this off the ground.

Yes, previous draws were based on league rank. This was cumulative over several seasons (based on wins and draws) and I believe the old Olmec software used to work it out.

As for getting it off the ground, it's down to Commish to decide how he wants the groups sorted out before I get involved. He might have the ranks based on last season anyway.

Well, as any group is a Group of Death for poor old Montrose, it doesn't really matter to me how it is set up or drawn. SESL/abigcry.gif

Imagine how nice a group with both old firm teams in it would be SESL/clap.gif

Commish has contacted me and we will be having a live draw.

For those new to the league and haven't read the rules, there will be 8 groups - A to H, with 6 teams in each group. Each plays 5 games (hopefully this will be at a neutral ground with no home bonus) and the top 4 from each group goes through to the knockout stage.

A-1st will play B-4th, A-2nd play B-3rd - you can work out the rest.

Each group will have 2 teams from each division - the only seeding there will be.

I need 3 volunteers who can be online for the whole draw (no I don't know when or how long yet). The reason for 3 is in case any have to leave for some reason.

At least one needs to be able to create password protected zipfiles.

I'm hoping to draw the numbers myself and let the volunteer(s) announce the teams. Someone with knowledge of the managers and team positions (especially those present for the draw) would be an asset so he could add colour.

Probable time of draw is a Sunday afternoon/early evening but I'm OK for some Saturday afternoons or most weekday evenings (all UK time). The first game is (I believe) May 31st but we also have to get this done early enough to give Commish time to set up the groups on the site.

Excellent. Well done for 'making it happen'.

Adds a bit of spice and fun to proceedings, and a chance for some online chat.

I'd be willing to help out, if you still need people steve

Steve Turner- 04-30-2006
Thanks Brian. The Cats have already volunteered as well.

Probable time and date for the draw is 7 PM BST (18:00 GMT) Sunday 14th May. That is 1 PM CDT (I think it's called).

It's looking like the knockout stages will be one match at a neutral ground.

I've set up (ok - I've copied one from MSWL) a simple chat room in case we need it here

If the username you pick is being used by someone else on the parachat system then it will ask for a password but "enter without password" and it will simply add some numbers to your name. I will keep going in when I'm online to check it's working in case anyone else takes a peek.

One game shoot-outs will get my vote too.
Makes sense as otherwise SESL Cup could go on for about a month after seasons end.

Thanks Dave, that's 3 roped in.

The live MSWL cup draw took place earlier this evening in the Parachat Room and took about an hour.

MSWL only has 24 teams but there was a lot of chat between draws which extended things a little. Hopefully we can complete the SESL Cup draw in an hour as well.

Eight managers turned up for the MSWL Cup draw - hopefully we can get as many managers as we had for the live auction earlier this year.
