Can anybody remember a couple of season back when the managers all chipped in and we managed to sponsor a Scottish football player - Scott Shearer the then Albion Rovers and Scotland Under 21 GK?

How about we go for that again, a whip round and see if we can sponsor another pro and help SESL contribute a little bit to Scottish football?

Obviously a better subject of our cash would be a donation to reward the Commish for running the game, but he has made it clear he would not want nor accept such a donation - however I do think he would be happy if managed something like this?

Can't remember how it got arranged the last time round, but I will happily donate £5 if anybody has any idea how we could go about doing this or something similar?

I am happy to donate for SESL to sponsor a player on our behalf.

Could be kinda SESL/cool.gif that actually, and we can follow the players' progress.

Decent idea.

Needs to be an optional thing though, as doubt many overseas managers would care to particpate in helping a Scottish lower league player with sponsorship!

Gabbarelli- 12-08-2005
Not much support for this, guess we best bin the idea!

Is this idea dead?

I'm willing to donate if we can make a go of it.

Sounds like a good idea. SESL/cool.gif

I'll bet that the managers would start following his career.
What does becoming sponsors involve? Should be fun

Shrewsbury Town boss Gary Peters has paid tribute to outgoing goalkeeper Scott Shearer.
The 26-year-old has agreed to join League Two rivals Wycombe Wanderers after starting 24 games for the Shrews.

Shearer was on loan from Bristol Rovers but an agreement prevented him from featuring in Saturday's League Two play-off final between the two sides.

"Scott has moved on and we wish him well. He has been a super lad to work with," Peters told the Shropshire Star.

Scott Shearer was sponsored by SESL Soccer managers 5 years ago when he played for Albion Rovers at the foot of Scottish Division 3.

Thanks to alfSTI (Rene?) for renewing this thread.

What a superb idea!

Some teams let you sponser a players SOCKS for the season, you may even get to keep them after the season has finnished! Which could be posted to the team with the most DP's at the end of the SESL season!

As for 'overseas' Managers, Yoav has already given this his blessing, and whether you're from Scotland or not, you are the Manager of a Scottish League team so this could be like Giving Something Back to the lower league teams like..... well... Montrose. Though with the REAL East Stirlingshire being bottom of Division 3 for I think the 5th season in a row, they might be quite cheap and at £5 a head, SESL could BUY them a player... and pay his wages.... for a season!

Okay, I've taken that too far. I won't be able to very soon, but before the Scottish season starts in August, I will endevour to investigate this and come back with some ideas/answers.

Please feel free to give me a nudge every now and again if you also feel this is a beltin' idea and want to take part.

Albion Rovers are offering player sponsorship next season for approx £40 GBP
I think this club was choosen previously for GK Scott Shearer as it was club closest to where Commish lived or worked.

If we are having a pay per play option from next season, maybe part could go on real-life player sponsorship and part on donation to Allan Sellers who pays to host the Olmec database game.

This is a brillant idea. I really want to be part of this.

A selection of Clubs have information on-line, some do not. Of the one's that do...

QP - £25 or £100 for presentation jesrey

EST - £50 no extras

STE - £90 no extras

BRE - £65 no extras

SRA - £70 no extras

STI - £100 + signed top!

MON - £75 +VAT! i'll have to have words...

Raith - £150 + signed top + 2 Matchday tickets of your choice(must the same match though)

DUMBARTON - £60 + SIGNED TOP!

I'm thinking Dumbarton, you're thinking Queens Park...

GM boss- 06-15-2007
DUMBARTON - £60 + SIGNED TOP!

That does not seem such a DUMB suggestion.

All sesl donators go in hat and someone wins the signed top at end of season?

garner- 06-17-2007
What about the top going to the commish?

Who is going to be collecting for this, and do they have paypal, so that I can pay.
I am keen to contribute.

scootie- 06-17-2007
I would go for Dumbarton too.... Obviously!!!

I think it would depend on how many others want to get involved, but five pounds would fine for me. That would be twelve managers/commish involved and I would ask Commish to do a draw for the top. I assume it would given away at the end of the season when the lads finished with it.
