Dear Mr. Chairman, I am somewhat disappointed that you have chosen this time to question, my management skills. At least you should have waited for this weeks results where we will probably lose 6-0 to MOT. I will point out that I am away this week scouting for new players and my assistant Zoltan is in charge of the team selection.
When I was appointed as manager of St Mirren it was only my "HOME" ties with Paisley, that drew me here, as I was reluctant to leave ROS who were in the process of rebuilding and had NO chance of relegation. ( see this weeks press).
Mark has done a great job with and I expect great things from ROS next season.
I did lay out to the SM board that this would be a 3-year program as we probably faced relegation this season. Next season would be a rebuilding one in div2 and the following season we would be challenging for promotion and a return to DIV1.
When I arrived SM had gone 0-0-6 and the fans had little to cheer about; added to this the team was leaking goals drastically at the rate of 4.5 per game. This has been halved in the time I have been here (now 2.2) and the team has gone on to win 2 games and draw 3, even taking a point of the champions elect DFA.
Team moral has greatly improved, where else in the country will you find the whole Squad in the Boozer on a Friday nite. This does a great deal for team bonding and the lads get fired up and on a Friday nite have the confidence to beat anyone; it somehow disappears come Saturday, that is something I will have to work on.
My coaching has been called into question re Russell & McGinty; these are players for NOW, I was looking towards next season and saw Murray & Rowe as vital players for our future.
Having said that it has been my intention all season that Russell will finish on 29.
I have used extra coaching points on trying to lift the teams playing ability on the ground and the OTF has gone up from 2 to 7.
Finally back to my scouting mission, I hope to announce shortly that we will be bringing a QUALITY Midfield player into the squad for next season. I am off to look at Bosman, who has been getting rave reviews in Kurdistan, I have every confidence that Bosman will be a St Mirren player next year which will be a big boost to our MF.
Miracles I can perform, the Impossible I can not.
