Which is most exciting?

Granted the English Premiership has by far better quality of players and standard of teams, but for excitement which would you vote for?

Chelsea have almost wrapped up the title down South already, dull, dull, dull.
Arsenal - Man Utd played out a dull, dull draw the other day.

SPL, closer at the top, 1st v 2nd resulted in a 3-2 thriller, the defending champions down in 4th place. SPL is where it's at this season..... SESL/tongueout.gif

Aye, SPL so exciting, the photo below shows even policemen and stewards turn round to watch the action.

Sorry Elgin, for your benefit I will clarify I am talking current season, not dwelling in the past! SESL/cool.gif

I was making a general comment in reply. How do you know when picture was taken? What game was it? I don't even recognise the teams' shirt who are scoring in photo.

As for this season - SPL title race has been won by Celtic,
while in Premiership the chase is on for European spots with Spurs now firmly in the mix.

European places hold little interest in SPL as Scottish teams tend to spend so little time in Europe, don't you agree Gabbarelli ?

Gabbarelli- 01-06-2006
I know when the picture was taken as I am a fan of Scottish football Elgin.

You do know SESL is based on the Scottish league, yet you appear to have no basic interest in the Scottish game?

I think you are underestimating Scottish teams in Europe, for the majority of the last 5 years there has been Scottish involvement in Europe after Christmas, including this season. So what do you base your comment on, for a small nation that is not bad going?

From current season to 5 years ago - whether you now comparing the past of last 5 years, Premiership used to be a 2 horse race, then briefly a 3 horse race, and now a one horse race (Chelsea).

While SPL has often been a 2 horse race, but majority of last 5 years, including this year it has been a one horse race with Celtic all but wrapped up title already as Hearts have self destructed by getting rid of manager Burley.

Go easy on Gabbarelli as he is just creating some discussion here.

If I assume he is talking about current season, then I never miss Match of the Day with English Premiership this season, while I never watch the dreadful Scotsport SPL tv coverage.

So my conclusion would be English Premiership is more exciting than SPL for me this season.

1. If you know where photo above was taken, please tell us then. If not, why the secrecy?
You in the masons or some secret service? rolleyes.gif

2. Can Gabbarelli clarify - are we now talking current season, or are you dwelling in the past with european football comment? wub.gif

No problem the photo was taken at Motherwell last year.

We are talking current season, the historical comment was in reply to the question you asked re European football.

Any more questions Elgin?

For excitement which would you vote for?
Premiership in England every time.
The atmosphere at games is often great there too.

Out of interest, can you list 3 things why you think SPL is better Gabby? SESL/header.gif

Gabbarelli- 01-09-2006
I would vote for the SPL this season:

1) The league race was not over by December.

2) The two giants of the league are both off form, meaning there is chances of them being upset each week.

3) Comparing the two recent televised matches between Hearts v Celtic in comparison to the dull game between two English Prem giants (Arsenal - Man Utd) which was a dull 0-0 draw.

Alo Boss- 01-09-2006
Down here in England we have the choice really, we either watch top quality football in the prem or if we fancy watching something like the SPL we just turn our attention to the Championship or league 1.

Gabbarelli- 01-10-2006
To be honest I prefer watching La Liga to any other football on television (apart from the Champions League that is).

However I used to be an avid viewer of the Premiership games every Sunday afternoon, but I can't remember the last one I have watched and enjoyed, so now frequently give them a miss.

This was the basis of my initial post - although it appears some seem to want any posts or threads anaylsed in detail and pick little petty arguments on every detail! SESL/awall.gif

Is excitement being mistaken for glamour.

The English Premiership is by far the more glamourous league with a vast majority of quality players, big name teams and modern stadiums but does it make the football any more exciting?

Recent games between Dunfermline and Rangers on Boxing Day and Hearts and Celtic on New Years Day were end to end games that created fantastic atmospheres and could have went either way which made for really exciting games.

Compared with the a couple of recent Sky Tv offerings between Arsenal and Aston Villa and Arsenal and Man Utd where the entertainment was sadly lacking.

Excitement wise there's not a lot between the leagues.

For excitement which would you vote for? Premiership.

TV companies tend to agree as while a few thousand watch live SPL games, it can be a a few million who watch live Premiership games beamed around the globe.
