im bored at work and have been checking the old forum topics- came across a link for the team histroy pages.

what an insight into the trials and tribulations of ARB.

http://www.aqth74.dsl.pipex.com/SESL%20History.htm

season 15 must have been a disaster down Gayfield Way ...

"And while the defense may survive that inevitable decline better than the rest of their roster, their defensive hopes will not be enhanced, given that both of their moderately capable keepers are also reaching an age where decrepitude will rear its ugly head. An extended stay in Division 3 is in the offing."

I never seem a more damning use of the word decrepitude. Too be fair i dont know if ive ever seen it used but still ...

Even further back in season 5 when I was in charge ...

" In fact, ARB have some great young DF players who will be the backbone of the team for seasons to come. "

apparantly i always build teams from the back - this season 76% of my TP/CP so far has been used on GK/SW or DEF

Some interesting reading whoever wrote it ....

David,

S15 was a GREAT season for Arbroath. We finished 3rd and were promoted to Div 2! SESL/cheerleader.gif

S14 would appear to be the season you're alluding to (finishing 15th and relegated) - and yes we were truly awful that season. Seem to recall that I took some gambles in S13 which only just failed and just missed out on promotion to the top flight. The downside of the gambles being very limited resources for S14 which proved our downfall.

I'm generally quite pleased with how I did with Arbroath. Taking them over in S10 in Div 3 and getting promoted to Div 2 in S12, there followed a continual battle against relegation season after season and generally did ok (S10 - S19).

True they're only established as a mid-table Division 2 side at best - but even this was almost always against the odds! I hope that they can continue to beat the odds and avoid relegation... again.

One day someone may even be able to make that big leap to the top flight... I never thought I'd be able to reach those heady heights with the Red Lichties... I'd love to see them there wub.gif

Ah yeah ... season 14 ... thats what I meant. Oops

I managed them previously in seasons 5/6/7 ish and missed out on Div 2 by only a few points if i remember correctly.

Gonna be tough this season but watch this space .... will be in Div 1 in a few short seasons.

I think CB supremo Beary Bloke Graham/Greame wrote the history.
Superb piece of work

What is summary of your previous seasons in SESL David ARB?

arbebra- 09-02-2008
hard to recall

i cant even remember how i came across SESL to be honest. slotted straight in at ARB in season 5

team history pages tell me i had a solid season with a shaky end denying me promotion. only 31 goals conceded ... must have won some sort of prize for that ?? but only 40 scored so clearly a solid defensive team with little going on upfront.

next season finished 3rd - this time 56 goals but 31 by one player ("theres only one Jimmy Nairn!!!!") !!

must have been a high 20's SL to get that many goals, if not 30's but with little support.

i said below missed promotion to div 2 but i was wrong. got promoted season 6 and missed promotion to top flight season 7 by a point as far as i can tell. so close and yet so far!!!

be in the top flight before you know it though

watch this space.....
