Season 16 - Feb 2006

Feel free to comment....

Please bear in mind this doesnt take account of certain positions attracting a premium this season or there being a glut of a certain age this season - before anyone insta-replies with that smart observation.

Its not intended to. Its meant to represent "normal" valuations. Any seasonal adjustments are just down to negotitation that year and providing it can be justified noone will likely bat an eyelid.....

Approximate SESL values (Initially based off S15 value spreadsheet)
===============================================
How much is a player worth - thats probably the first question for a new
manager venturing out on the trade trail to modify that lineup of old
has-beens you inherited or to sell off some of the talent you received
to gain a few dollars for training or to buy someone in that position
you so obviously need.

There are no hard and fast rules, but a small team of managers with a
few years experience in the game have come up with a small set of key
figures to help you determine what a player is worth.

This is just a few key value points, values below the quoted age/skill
levels quoted are usually nominal and may go for a few dollars, whilst
those above constitute star players and their values are usually special
negotiations, but I wouldnt expect to much of a deviation from the basic
line of increasing value. In between these key points values should
pretty much fall roughly in a straight line between the quoted figures.

Certain playing positions attract premiums (see the end).

These values are not hard and fast rules, people will trade outside
these values for many reasons, but any deals which are too one sided
(especially involving a new manager being ripped off) will be equalised
by a trade adjudicator & a small committee comprising a number of
players in the league.

Playing position premiums.
===================
Each of the "standard" playing positions comply with the above value
list, however certain playing positions will attract premiums due to
their usefulness.

GK - key to stopping goals, a highly rated GK is a prize possession they
usually attract a premium.
SW, DF, MF,WG - no premium usually
SD, DM - Multi position player - premium attracted due to flexibility
FW - key to scoring goals and winning games, as a player rises in skill
level he will score significantly more goals. as such highly skilled FWs
(as will MA players).
MA - being both a multi position and a forward player this could
reasonably be assumed to be a very useful player and attract a premium.
UT - finally the ultimate player - the utility player - almost any
position with no skill loss - very valuable.

If I were to assign values (and these are not meant as anything other
than a guide) I would assign:-

SW, DF, MF, WG - 0%
SD - 5%
DM, FW - 5-10%
GK, MA - 10-15%
UT - 15-20%

The only other times that players will attract premiums is due to their
scarcity. As an example at the start of Season 16 Defenders were scarce
with a number of managers requesting them on the tradelists and
therefore could reasonably be expected to attract a small premium.

Players low in value
====================
Players should rarely trade at discounts. The main reasons for this
usually occur because of a collection of circumstances (Again as an
example at the start of Season 16 Age 1 players were plentiful but there
was not enough TP around to train them all - as a result it would be
reasonable for some age 1 players to trade at discount).

Trade imbalances
====================
It is reasonable for players to assess each others squads prior to a
trade to determine that the other side needs a player more than the
reverse is true - this can often result in players being given at
discounts in order for the manager who needs a particular position or
high value player to get the trade.

General
=====================
Its worth noting that players of the same skill level, but different ages,
do not (and should not) attract equal values, the SESL aging
tables take care of that - it simply costs more to keep an older
player at the same skill level as they lose skill faster, making
it less economically sound keeping them at that level. This is
why trade values tail off significantly the older a player becomes.
About the only time that its worth continually feeding CP into
an old player is when they are a forward player as they will
continue to score goals for you despite their age, but even that is
rarely done.

Trading is meant to be fun - theres no need for insults when someone
makes or receives a silly offer. Remember that at all times you have the
ultimate sanction of simply not accepting a deal - walk away politely
but firmly. If there are rogue managers trying their chances then they
will eventually get the message.

This sheet is intended to survive at least a few seasons from season 16
but no doubt special circumstance will prevail in any one particular
season - this isnt a reason to throw out this value sheet. Its more an
opportunity for you to use your skill to assess why you think someone
should attract that premium or why you think you should get it cheaper.
If your reasoning makes sense then no-one will bat an eye-lid - if you
can defend your position with reason there is every chance you are
correct in your valuation.

Above all have fun.

Great work guys.

A couple of TP to each of you in the post! (CB, GRE, HEA & STE)

any chance an age 0 can get to 20 -18 SL ?

Looks good, Nice work guys

Age 0/20 - 2300k approx I would guess?

The figures noted is a base for most popular players, but the pair of multipostitonal 0/8 won at live auction on Sunday can hit 0/20 this season and worth as much as anyone could afford.

What is record price paid for a player in sesl history ?

I don't know about the past history of MSWL but DUU bought a player in last year's first live auction for 1522k.

That UT player at DUU must be the 1522k auction buy from last term then.

As for value guide, it may seem a litle lengthy for a newbie, but is clear enough for ease of use, in my humble opinion!

Its probably worth noting that the prices are really only full pre-season prices.

As you get into a season prices depreciate. You are, after all, getting closer to the various aging points in the season and there are less games to get any use out of them as the season progresses.

So by the time that 0/8 ends up as a 0/20 its at least halfway and possibly even the end of the season, the full TP allocation has been spent and they'll soon be a 1/20 so they arent worth any silly amount. A hefty price tag - but not anything astronomical.....

2300 would be a price for a 0/20 somewhere near the start of a season and so highly unlikely as a player - near the end of the season I'd guess somewhere around 1600-1900 depending on how many games were left of the season.

The recent auction prices are quite low, but then I think that is more to do with lack of funds in teams' banks rather than value guide being skewed.

Any further analysis cannot be done based on a one off auction, but more apprpriate after a full season I'd say.

These value tables are a great help to me, so thanks to those who helped compile them.

Thumbs up :b

No need to pin topic, as long as we keep replying! :-0

The auction analysis done by Steve DEV on blog after each auction is good work though - nice one, Steve.

Yes, much good work there Steve.
It saves me the bother of having to do that myself.

Thanks guys.

To be honest it wasn't my idea as such as I've simply copied my good friend Tim Given (shut up, Phil) on MSWL who does the same thing. Only he uses his own value guide for working out the percentages.

I actually keep 'overlooking' this thread, as when it is 'pinned' it is not sitting with other discussions.

May be best moving to "Trade players or resources" forum topic?

Beagle- 04-21-2006
I usually hit the pinned topics first, but that's just me.
