What do you guys think of the transfer window?! Personnally i think it leads to clubs playing over the odds for players. Bolton rejected 12 million today for Anelka, ok he is a proven scorer at this level but Bolton could use 12 million to sign a 4/5 players who could help them move up the table also Anelka is well known for his sulking!

I am unsure on transfer windows in real-life. Seems OK in summer, but in January there are so few decent players who are not already cup tied, so it just gives the tabloid papers nonsense to fill their pages with transfer rumours for a whole month!

Bolton rejected 12 million today for Anelka - but he WILL go I think. Imagine if his old boss could temp him to Newcastle and help Sam out there!

However I think Chelsea or Man Utd could do with Anelka, and remember he is not cup tied and free to play in Champions League this season still.

I really don't know who the transfer window is supposed to help???

I thought it was supposed to help the smaller teams as the bigger teams couldn't just buy their way through a crisis. I don't think that works.

Using a window only concentrates the number of buys into a smaller time period and hence increases player values and the number of panic buys.
The big teams nearly always get their man, as they have the money.
During the summer the small teams with restricted funds have more time to wiegh up their targets to either spend it on a couple of big buys or take their chances with a number of bosmans or frees. It's in the winter window when these smaller teams get themselves into all sorts of bother by having to pay over the odds to get in new faces to freshen things up in the hope of not getting relegated. How many of these new faces actually make the impact to save their new clubs? The clubs dont feel they have the time to properly scout players before they have to buy to before the window closes and they have to go with what they got. This is where the panic buying comes in.

Have I got this wrong?

Is there anyone who thinks the transfer window is actually a good idea?

True, and then Sam would just need for Newcastle 4 new defenders and 4 new midfielders, and he's have an OK team then!

The only folk who appear to be a fan of the transfer window are the European Commission, seeing as it's their fault.
They were tired of employees getting punted round the various countries of the EU at the whim of their employers every other day.
So they've made it only a specific number of days instead.

Of course that would assume Big Sam lasted through the window SESL/say_nowt.png

I'd love to say it's been a great idea and a success, but I never liked the idea and it's been a disaster.

I agree with some previous posts - it's lead to inflated prices for average players and whilst the window may stop the bigger, richer clubs buying players all season, it also prevents the smaller clubs from buying when they have a crisis (meaning they have to struggle on or hope to bring in some loanee - whose probably short on match fitness).
