Does anyone know on which channels there will be broadcasts from the World Cup?

Israel is probably amongst a handful of countries in which the matches are not going to be broadcasted on nation open television.

I just installed a satellite dish in order to be able to take a part in this wonderful human wide experience of football (although a passive part).

The b*st*rds that got the "royalties" for the broadcasts were also given the rights for Israeli league and English league (so I almost lost any interest in football in the recent year or two). Now I've found out that they even got the right for the Israeli national team for the nearest decade.

Does the people of Britain are forced to pay extortionate money to watch football in general and world cup or national team games in particular?

In the UK we have to pay £131 to watch any TV at all.

Then there is Sky Sports (on satellite and cable) which costs extra. I pay £30 per month for cable, broadband and telephone so am not sure what cable TV is alone. But Sky Sports is extra on top of that and I don't have it. Sky Sports have virtually all the rights to live Premiership and Championship football (as well as many other sports) but BBC are allowed to show highlights. ITV show live Champions League football.

Qualifiers for Euro and World Cup are often live on "free" TV but not all.

As for the Euro finals and World Cup finals then all the live games are on BBC or ITV - they agree which matches to show (both show the final) so apart from the £131 we all get to see them for free.

UK Government protected "the 6 sporting crown jewels" for free to air channels.
This is FA Cup Final, Wimbledon Tennis Final, Open Golf, that sort of thing.

All World Cup games ae on free to view TV also in UK. The advetisers would not allow it any other way. Same with ITV having Tuesday night Champions League games - advertising revenue generated with a bigger tv audience.

Sky Sports quickly ebbing away at many events though - like Ryder Cup golf, and majority of Premiership as Steve said above. Thankfully, in a year, those deals have just been renewed and there is a bigger carve up of live games, but Setanta Sports in Ireland got Premiership live games but Friday on Monday nights likely to be TV games, so not ideal.
At least we can get Setanta on freeview box (currently you can get Setanta games free at 1 hours notice with an internet search for secret PIN codes and a bit of patience!)

Here in Ontario, Canada, I have a satellite dish because our cable tv service is rather crappy. I am paying almost $80 Cdn. for the satellite TV and $39 CDn per month for my wireless internet service. It is getting expensive. Our telephone is about $50 Cdn per month. Although our rates are getting expensive here, what you are paying in Britain seems somewhat outrageous!
